Selenium vs QTP, which is better to learn for jobs in Toronto, Canada, USA?

Selenium vs QTP- This debate will never end.  And you need to decide it yourself. 

Selenium is completely for web applications- no support for desktop applications. QTP on other hand has both support for both desktop based and web based applications. However the web based support is messed up. 

  Now, if after 4 years, you have no experience of programming whatsoever, then I would suggest going for QTP because VBScript is more easy to learn- from a programming or scripting point of view.
    But if you have a basic knowledge of any programming language that Selenium supports (Java/Perl/Python/C#/PHP) then go for Selenium, because it is way more cooler and fun to work with then QTP. Rest it is on you.  Rahul Yadav

I have to say, working with Selenium was truly an enlightening experience. I was involved in developing the framework from scratch and did so solo. Browsing through tons of articles and videos, I learned so much about it that I used to try automate every website I would visit. Because you may face a new challenge with every website and that would help broaden your perspective in creating a stable & complete framework.

2. Selenium can be used with a wide variety of modern programming languages such as Java, Python, C#, etc. unlike QTP which is VBScript. Seriously, it has no OOPS concept involved. Call yourself scripter, but don't dare to call yourself the programmer.
3. Selenium is Open Source Software, which means it is free to use and modify. Whereas QTP has a hefty fee attached to it.
